This is a famous phrase by the french philosopher Descartes, a conclusion in his quest for the meaning of his existence. Indeed a man is conscious of his being because he can think, but I would like to add something to this: a man is the being he is because of the way he thinks. By being I do not merely mean his existence, but the quality of his life; his character; the way he is and the things he does.
